5 Easy Steps to Organize Your Linen Closet
Your entire family visits your linen closet on a regular basis, so it stands to reason that it can get pretty messy. The key to keeping any space organized is to have a place for everything and have everything labeled so that your family knows where things go.
I know it can seem overwhelming cleaning out your linen closet, but you can do it if you follow these 5 easy steps.
Step 1 – Take everything out of the closet….yep, I mean everything!
Step 2 – Wipe down everything – floor, walls and shelves. Now comes the fun part! Yes, there is a fun part. Treat your closet like it’s a room. Paint it a fun color, put up peel and stick wallpaper or line the shelves with a colorful paper. If you have a small budget – or no budget – you can use wrapping paper as wallpaper. It is so easy to work with…and there is so many great designs! You don’t have to go floor to ceiling, just hang the paper shelf to shelf…get creative.
Step 3 – Sort through all of the items that you had in your closet. Set aside any items that belong somewhere else. Get rid of anything that you wouldn’t have your guest’s use. If your anything like me you collect way to many towels and sheets. Darn that TJ Maxx! Downsize and only keep your favorites…you probably only use those anyway. Neatly fold all of the items that you are keeping.
Step 4 – Remember the key to organizing is to have everything have a place. Put small like items in baskets or bins and label them. Tight budget, you can use shoe boxes or cut cereal boxes down and wrap them with decorative paper. Use neutral monotone colors for a cohesive look.
Step 5 – Start by putting away the items you use most – front and center. (Just remember to put any items that could be dangerous for your kiddos up high where their little hands can’t reach.) Don’t overstuff – you want to be able to see all of your beautiful decor.
Step back and enjoy!
